Fairview, Missouri

Fairview is a small city in southeastern Newton County, Missouri, situated in the heart of the Ozark foothills. The community was platted in the late 1800s and a post office under the name Fairview has been in continuous operation since 1907. The city is part of the Joplin, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fairview grew up around agriculture and the rural railroad economy of southwestern Missouri. The community's name reflects the scenic views of the surrounding Ozark countryside that early settlers encountered. For over a century, Fairview has maintained its close-knit character — a place where neighbors know each other by name and community traditions run deep. In the early 20th century, Fairview established its own water system and adopted its city charter, formalizing local governance that continues today. The city has steadily improved its infrastructure over the decades while preserving the small-town feel that residents cherish. Today, Fairview is home to approximately 419 residents who take pride in their community. Local landmarks include City Hall, Veterans Memorial Park, and the historic railroad right-of-way that passes through the eastern edge of town. Residents enjoy easy access to the amenities of nearby Neosho and Joplin while maintaining the quiet quality of life that makes Fairview special.
